Mariveles Dry Bulk Terminal Update

In 2015, we embarked on a challenging project of providing long length spirally welded piles with interlocks for a project in Mariveles.

The owners of the project, planned to develop a dry bulk terminal in Mariveles Philippines for one of the major cement manufacturers in Philippines. This meant that their terminal had to be built in a quick timeline, plus having the confidence that large vessels calling at the new port will have no issues.

Project Info

Being able to discuss and provide inputs to owners and consultants on an early stage, we tabled out several design possibilities and finally by end of 1Q2015, we agreed upon using an interconnecting pipe pile structure to form the base foundation of the structure. The interconnecting element or interlocks proposed was the patented WOM WOF XL (O-Pile) design. The WOM WOF XL interlock provided at least 3 times the strength as compared to regular interlocks, while coupled with WADIT sealant, provided a water tight solution for the wharf structure.

Mer Lion Metals also suggested using different pipe thicknesses on the overall structure to save on overall tonnage as well as cost involved. Steel Pipes also provided a quick and efficient way of building the wharf as compared to other methods.

Supplied Material:
Steel Pipes: 1600mm OD Pipes x 16 or 18mm Thick x 180 pcs x 15-30m Length in API X70 Steel Grade. Steel Reinforcement rings, and coating in Polyurethane and Epoxy was provided.
Tie Rods: 70mm Diameter Forged Upset End Tie Rods in 550 Steel Grade with lengths up to 36.4 meters.
Bollards: Richards Type 100 Ton Bollards and Pull Bars.
Lifting Slings: For 22 tons lifting load per pile.

With just a timeline of 3 months to procure and deliver materials for the start of work, Mer Lion Metals with the help of its factories, delivered the first batch of piles in End July 2015 and final batch of piles by Mid Aug 2015 on schedule.

We tailored made our logistics to allow international going vessels to call directly on site. With the close coordination of contractors, our piles were unloaded in efficient manner.

Pile driving is currently underway in Aug 2015 and stay tune for our updates on the project when finally completed.
