Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Gan Kim Yong visited Innovations Lab

Mlion Corporation hosted Minister for Trade and Industry Mr. Gan Kim Yong, on 4th August 2022 at its Innovations Lab at 10 Winstedt Road.

The closed-door visit showcased some of Mlion Corporation’s recent growth and how the Scale-up SG Programme by Enterprise Singapore has helped the company continue to grow despite uncertain economic challenges in the market. Mlion, which derives 80% of its revenue from overseas markets, has been focusing on growing its core business regionally by setting up regional offices in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand and has been expanding its team to meet this continuous growth.

What differentiates Mlion from its competitors is the way in which we deliver our solutions. Mlion aims to not just sell commoditized products, but instead offers a customized solution for Waterfront and Underground construction projects. Our team takes effort to listen to and understand the project requirements. It is through technical consultations that the team provides a customized solution that can add value and efficiency to the customers.

Mlion’s core products like the MHZ (Mlion Hot Rolled Z) sheet piles and O-Pile solution have gained significant market share in Asia and strive to redefine the way sheet piles and interlocking pipes are being used. These solutions have helped Mlion to continue to grow at 40+% Year-on-Year with record revenues and profits expected in 2022. Mlion continues to be the market leader in the foundation steel market in Southeast Asia.

Another highlight which Minister Gan viewed was one of Mlion’s first innovations that has already been implemented in Davao Philippines. The Mobile Four Roll Bend Facility, which can be packed in 20-foot containers and shipped to remote locations, is capable of rolling steel pipes without grid power. This innovation was spurred by hydroelectric power plant owners who challenged Mlion to find a solution to bring the production to the project site, such as in the mountainous areas. This would effectively cut down transport costs for pipes by 2x. Currently, Mlion aims to set up 2-3 more of such plants in the Philippines in areas where transportation and accessibility is a challenge.

Minister Gan also viewed GoListid, an online digital platform for pre-owned steel material with the aim of reducing carbon footprint, first-hand.. The platform seeks to encourage reusability of steel material by providing an avenue for construction companies to give their steel a second lease of life instead of scrapping it.

GoTagID, the second innovation which will be launching in 4Q2022, complements the GoListid platform by providing a durable tagging solution for steel materials beyond the point of sale. Users can easily scan and access quality data. The tags are able to withstand construction rigours in the field like sea water corrosion, impact and vibrations. Minister Gan tested the scanning capabilities and witnessed the ease of use in pulling records out from the cloud-based system.

Mlion is truly honoured to have Minister Gan drop by our Innovations Lab and share with him Mlion’s mission on redefining the steel industry. We thank the Ministry of Trade and Industry, together with EnterpriseSG for their continuous support as we continue on our Scale-up SG journey.
