Bringing Hope to the Mangyan Community: Mlion and LionhearTV’s Outreach Initiative

In partnership with LionhearTV, Mlion helped to sponsor the Lion With A Heart outreach initiative for a Mangyan community in Sitio Pinagbayanan, Paluan, Occidental Mindoro. At Mlion, we are constantly looking for meaningful ways to give back to the communities around us. So, when one of our staff suggested this CSR initiative, we jumped at the opportunity.

​LionhearTV is a prominent digital media platform in the Philippines, known for its extensive coverage of entertainment news, pop culture, and lifestyle content. Beyond its media endeavours, LionhearTV actively engages in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, collaborating with various organisations to support community development and social causes.

On Mindoro Island are the Mangyan, the indigenous peoples of Mindoro, recognised as a distinct ethnic group from the majority lowland Filipino population. They primarily reside in remote upland areas, where they have preserved their indigenous languages, customs, and knowledge systems for generations. Mangyan communities face unique challenges compared to the broader Filipino population. Accessing the remote sitio (hamlet) required a five-hour boat ride from the town of Paluan. Mayor Michael Diaz generously arranged the transport, providing critical support to the team during their journey from Manila to the community.

Supporting the Mangyan communities is a meaningful undertaking that requires collaboration. This outreach was the result of a group effort involving multiple organisations and the support of local government officials.

The collaborative initiative brought joy and essential supplies to 500 Mangyan families. Each family received a thoughtfully prepared care package containing:

  • 4 cans of Mega Sardines
  • 1 kilogram of pancit bihon
  • 2 packs of Lucky Me Beef noodles
  • 2 packs of Lucky Me Chicken noodles
  • 3 large bars of Safeguard soap
  • 1 bar of Surf laundry soap
  • 1 dozen-pack of shampoo
  • Either 1 bottle of BoostVit Syrup (120ml) or 1 pack of EQ diapers for households with infants

For the youth, games inspired by popular social media challenges were hosted, with chocolate treats, candies, noodles, and sardines given out as prizes. The biggest hit, however, was the Disney merchandise, caps, pencil cases, tumblers, and bags, which brought bright smiles and excitement to young faces.

At Mlion, we believe that every act of kindness, no matter how small, can leave a lasting impact. Giving back has always been part of who we are, not just as a company, but as people. We are proud to stand alongside partners, communities, and individuals who share the same spirit of compassion and solidarity. It is our hope that efforts like these continue to inspire meaningful connections and remind us all of the value of reaching out to others.
